Shanghai Pudong Airport Terminal 2 is slightly larger than Terminal 1 and shares a similar structure, with international services on the left and domestic flights on the right. It is designed to handle up to 60 million passengers annually and is primarily used by Air China and several other airlines.
Levels and Layout
Terminal 2 is organized across several levels, each tailored to specific passenger needs:
- Level 1: This level hosts departures for both international and domestic flights, as well as some arrivals. Its layout makes it convenient for transfer passengers, allowing easier movement between international and domestic areas. Tip: If you are transferring between flights, check your boarding pass for the correct level and gate, as some transfers may require changing floors.
- Level 2: This floor handles international and domestic arrivals, including flights from Macao, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. It features boarding gates 50–65, 67–79, and 80–98, with remote gates in the S2 Satellite Terminal (gates 581–586, 589–590, 593–600, and 801–816). Level 2 also houses a hotel and a shopping area exceeding 2,000 square meters in the north and south waiting zones. Tip: If you have a long layover, consider booking a room in the on-site hotel or relax in the spacious waiting areas with shopping and dining options.
Satellite Terminal S2
Satellite Terminal S2, which opened in 2019, was built to increase passenger capacity alongside S1. Both satellite terminals are connected to Terminals 1 and 2, where passengers complete check-in, and together they offer 83 jet bridges and 90 boarding gates. S2 is linked to Terminal 2 by an underground people mover, ensuring smooth transfers for those who have cleared security and check-in. Tip: Allow extra time for transfers between Terminal 2 and the S2 Satellite Hall, as the people mover ride is quick but security and check-in must be completed first
Transfer Between Terminals
Free terminal shuttle buses operate between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, stopping at Gate 8 in T1, Gate 23 and Gate 27 in T2, and Gate 1 in T1. The shuttle runs every 10 minutes from 6:00 am to midnight, with a travel time of about 5 minutes. Tip: Use the shuttle if you are changing terminals or airlines, especially if you have heavy luggage or a tight connection.
